saz lockyer
Saz Lockyer is a one man act from Albany. His musical instruments include electric acoustic twelve string, slide guitar, home made stomp box, didgeridoo, tambourine and an assortment of Australian hand made instruments and shakers.
His music is difficult to put under just one genre but is best described as an earthy blues and roots based sound. Mixing his didge with the slide makes for a sound often compared to as the sounds of Xavier Rudd and John Butler. Saz is humbled by these comparisons as he admires these people, "As great Australian musos".
Saz's music is all about expression of feelings and experiences. His new single 'Good Vibes' is drenched with happy feelings that puts his growing audiences in a happy toe tapping mood. His didge playing is not greatly influenced by Aboriginal methods, but more a rhythmic style with circular breathing, taking the audience on a journey through song and beat.
Since Saz won the 'Albany Original Music Competition' held at the 'King River Tavern' in January, he has been focusing on gigs that have included playing for 'WAMi' at the 'Esperance Festival of the Wind' and supporting 'eMdee' in Albany. His year is busy with local and South West tours, stretching from Esperance to Margret River. Saz has also played at the 'National Whale Protection Day - Festival' held at Middleton Beach, Albany on 12 th May 2007. Saz is keen to support local groups who are using music to help educate the wider community of important environmental issues, ranging from commercial whaling to nature stripping and our native flora and fauna.
'Morning Beats', Saz's first album, was released in December 2006 and since its release has sold hundreds of copies. The cd has been independently released and produced by Saz. He is planning the release of an EP later this year which will include his latest single 'Good Vibes' and a few more new tracks
