Loren

What I love about music is that it truly is a universal language…it reaches us on so many different levels and it reminds us of what connects us all. It’s awesome to be a part of it in a live sense and also to know that people are enjoying it on an individual level in their own space.”

Down to earth and humble, Loren is a hard-working troubadour revealing a musical ambition that dazzles.  Courtesy of four releases, two of which are studio albums, and a huge live presence, he is a testament to what one can create within an independent music scene.  Making waves around the country with his new album ‘Slow Burn’, Australian audiences of fans and media alike have greeted the new songs with open arms and the first single ‘On By Day’ hit the airwaves receiving instant rotation on Triple J.

“We were far more experimental in the recording process of this album so it was a much more collaborative effort. I feel like we stretched ourselves and our boundaries in a few directions which helped with the creative process. We’re realising that this is a lifelong journey and each recording is another step forward.”

Loren possesses a rare energy onstage that demands attention.  He has the natural gift of being able to tell a story in a song with skilful lyrical imagery while delicately balancing self-expression and audience connection.  With a voice of silk, he absorbs inspiration from worldly destinations, experiences, from deep within himself and from some of the great songwriters and musicians that walked before him, channelling it into something original, captivating, and dynamic.  Any attempts at modern comparisons or pigeon holes don’t quite work with Loren.  He does what he does without any desire to impress or replicate and what you are left with is pure and raw individual talent that appeals to a dreadlocked hippie, the local footy team, a fellow musician, an innocent child, a middle aged businessman, and your grandma.

After the release and success of his first studio album ‘Community’ Loren then further developed his live show and introduced the ‘Grow Your Owns’. The band are quickly carving out their own niche in the music scene and are fast building an impressive collection of festival appearances under the belt including Woodford Folk Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival, Folk Rhythm & Life, West Coast Blues & Roots, Fairbridge Festival, Apollo Bay Music Festival, Yungaburra Folk Festival and Blues At Bridgetown, emerging as a festival highlight on many occasions.

‘The Grow Your Owns’ is a reference to the idea of self sustainability and being as non reliant on the system as possible. As independent musicians we make our own music, record it ourselves sometimes, make our own posters etc... it's about doing as much as you can yourself and doing it your own way.

Exchange a moment with this inspirational songsmith and you will be enticed back for further exploration.
