Gavin Shoesmith originally a Freo boy in his last life as bass player for a well known band (of which could be said, ‘help kick-start the roots movement in Australia’) founded the Groovesmiths in Darwin. Joining Shoesmith (vocals, bass, lap steel bass and harmonica) are two of W.A's up and coming musicians.Introducing Alex Dew on electric guitar and Matt Wright on drums. In a teacup The Groovesmiths takes the traditional roots music formula and gives the rhythm section a healthy new energy boost.

Rockus Online Magazine states, ‘ the hallmarks of roots music are all there; inflections of ska and reggae, acoustic percussion, steel & slide guitars and lyrical content much in the being of social awareness. The slight twist here, however, is that the rhythm and beat of he music sits much more in the are of hip-hop than blues or rock…top-notch’.

The Groovesmiths are a gang of musical Banditos, they aren’t just musos they are true players. Their dedication to their instruments has seen them emerge outside the boundaries taking the genre of roots music to a different level.
