Born in Alexandria Egypt in 1950, Ivan migrated to Perth with his family in 1963. He was drawn to the blues at an early age and taught himself to play the harmonica.
Influenced by Howlin’Wolf, Muddy Waters and many others, Ivan is a fine exponent of acoustic Mississippi, Delta country blues and post-war Chicago Blues.
Ivan is a Western Australian Blues Legend. W.A’s. most famous Bluesman.
Ben met Ivan soon after his first visit to Bridgetown in 2002 when he was 14, and they were playing together soon after, such was his natural instinct for blues music. Ben's passion for listening to and learning from all genres of music has seen his playing expand from blues to jazz to rock and the classical musical of India. Equally at home singing acoustic ballads or revving up the Stratocaster. Check out this work in progress.
